Every Friday night during the fall while I was in high school, I was playing in the marching band at our high school football games - doing pre-game shows, the half-time shows, and in the stands playing the fight song when we made a touchdown. Those were some of my best high school memories. But upon graduation, my clarinet went into the closet and was not played again. A few years ago after reading an article about the New Horizons band in a local newspaper, I clipped the article out and put it into my "Things to Do When I Retire" folder. Upon retirement from the nursing faculty at Monroe Community College, I joined the New Horizons band in 2005.

I am an RN and graduated from Alfred University and the University of Rochester. I have worked in medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric-mental health nursing, and home care. I taught nursing for many years, first at Corning Community College, then at Keuka College, and lastly at MCC. My first job as an RN was at The Genesee Hospital. I also worked as a nurse (or as they say there, a "Sister") in Australia and also at Stanford Medical Center in California.

Although playing in the New Horizons band is my favorite retirement activity, I also enjoy hiking, kayaking, skiing, camping, tap dancing, African drumming, reading, and traveling. My husband and I have done several service trips working in the national parks. That's our favorite way to travel.
