| Educator-violinist-composer-conductor-athlete, Nancy Strelau, directs the Rochester New Horizons Symphony Orchestra. She has music degrees from Syracuse University and the University of Miami (Florida). Nancy recently retired from Nazareth University where she was Associate Director of the Nazareth School of Music, Associate in Professional Studies, Director of String Studies, and Director of Orchestras and Auditions Coordinator. Her educational experience also includes being Director of Orchestras and String Coordinator for the Penfield Central School District.
Nancy founded and conducts the Greater Rochester Women's Philharmonic, she also has conducted the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, the Brighton Symphony Orchestra, the Rochester New Horizons Orchestras, the Hochstein Youth Symphony Orchestra (founded by Nancy in 1992), and the Virtuosi Scholarship Chamber Orchestra (founded by Nancy in 2002).
Before coming to Rochester in 1986, Mrs. Strelau was a violinist with the Florida Philharmonic and Miami Pops, as well as Assistant Conductor of the Greater Miami Youth Orchestra.
Mrs. Strelau has received the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra Musicians Award for Outstanding Music Educator in String Education, Hochstein Music School Faculty Service Award, Richard Snook Memorial Award from the Monroe County School Music Association, and the Nazareth College Faculty Service Award.
She has several orchestral and choral pieces published with Warner Brothers and Southern Music Company. One of her pieces 'Four Miniatures' has been performed by the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. Nancy has made several appearances at Carnegie Hall including conducting the premiere of her composition for full symphonic orchestra "L'enfant du Soldat".
In addition to her musical accomplishments, Nancy is also a contractor of non-union musicians for traveling professional shows in the upstate NY region including the Trans Siberian Orchestra and Josh Groban.
As an athlete Nancy rows with the Rochester Boat Club and she advises the Nazareth College Crew Team and the Nazareth College Quidditch Team.
